Benedictine Medal
St. Benedict (c. 480-547) was born into a noble family in Italy. He studied in Rome but left his studies to pursue a monastic life. He developed a Rule for Monastic life including liturgical prayer, study, manual labor and community life under an abbot. The Rule of St. Benedict still inspires religious communities to this day.
